In less than a week of launch, stealth action-adventure game Hitman III by developer/publisher IO Interactive has already sold enough copies to recoup entire cost of development and topped UK sales charts, signaling a fourth Hitman game.
Despite wrapping up World of Assassination trilogy of newly rebooted Hitman saga, IOI has yet to be done with Agent 47 anytime soon as executive producer Forest Swartout Large suggests that more Hitman 3 missions are on their way.
In a recent interview, Large stated that IO Interactive has more to offer and dev team is working on more Hitman content. This may not likely be an indication for a possible sequel but could be Hitman 3 DLC is currently under development.
IO Interactive is not planning for something huge like Haven Island or bank location in New York DLC at this moment. Instead of rolling out something big, dev team wants to re-imagine existing levels by adding twists to Hitman 1 and 2 maps.
Forest Swartout Large has shared some key-detail on what IOI is looking at regarding future of Hitman III.
We are definitely going to be doing some DLC, but we haven't defined what that is. I think for now we are not looking at new maps like the bank and the island. We're more looking at using existing locations and reimagining them, twisting them. And this time around, we can use the whole trilogy. We can look back at Hitman 2016 maps, Hitman 2 maps - we have all the locations.
Swartout Large has hinted at rolling out more Elusive Targets or Escalation missions Instead of going for something big right now. IO Interactive dev team is ready to deliver more post-launch content and may be release an Expansion Pass.
Hitman III is available to play on Google Stadia, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. IOI previously announced working on a "Project 007", brand-new James Bond game back in November 2020.
