Forbidden West was no surprise to series fans at all and was surely one of the biggest reveals from PS5 showcase. Although Horizon II will not debut as a launch title for PS5, it will arrive within first year of Sony's next-gen console lifetime.
Series protagonist Aloy returns for her second greatest adventure in a distant future open-world that is taken over by machines. She goes out on a journey to find answers to unknown secrets representing her own clan, Nora tribe.

HFW will pick up from where the first game ended and take players from Utah to Pacific Ocean in West though deserts, ruined cities and valleys. Forbidden West will have maps bigger than that of Horizon Zero Dawn, according to de Jonge.
He adds that there will be "virtually no loading screens" due to brand-new SSD in PlayStation 5, one of its prominent features. It emphasizes on immersion by dynamically changing environments when you travel from one place to another.

There were rumors of a follow-up to Horizon Zero Dawn from earlier this year from job posting and dev teasing. Shortly ahead of recent announcement, Guerrilla Games launched a comic-book series to tie-in with events from the game.
Contrary to what many have expected, Horizon II: Forbidden West will not be joining launch lineup of PlayStation 5. Its predecessor title HZD became one of the best-selling PlayStation 4 titles of all time by selling over 10 million copies.
