Streets of Rage 4 PC Version on GOG Lacks Online Multiplayer
GOG store is selling Streets of Rage 4 PC Version without online multiplayer and yet charging for a full price.
After a very long departure from series for nearly 25 years, classic side-scrolling beat 'em up game Streets of Rage 4 makes a comeback to its genre lately by launching on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms.
Although all versions of SoR4 seemingly have released with all similar features in common, GOG version of the game for PC platform is not supporting online multiplayer mode in spite of having a same price tag as Steam storefront.

PC version on GOG has a disclaimer that evidently states that two-player online mode is currently not available on store and DRM-free version of SoR4 only supports up to four-player in local co-op action, not two-player online.
When a fan asked on social media about whether Streets of Rage 4 will have cross-play with Steam, a reply from developer Lizardcube recently confirmed about removal of online gameplay and only accessibility of local multiplayer.

In a response to fan on Twitter, this unfortunate shortcoming for GOG version is verified by Lizardcube.

Though Lizardcube suggests there is no online mode on GOG, store note claims that SoR4 will not be supporting online features "at this time". In this case, you may have to choose between no DRM and no multiplayer option therefore.
In general, beat 'em up games are much more fun to play with friends but since many players are staying indoors these days due to recent COVID-19 pandemic, they have to mostly rely on online experience for instead of couch co-op.

Despite providing a literal inferior version of SoR4, both GOG and Steam version are being sold for $24.99 only. Considering lack of a major feature, Lizardcube could at least offer everyone to get the game at a lesser price as a courtesy.
A modern-day revival of known franchise, Streets of Rage 4 was only made possible due to collective efforts of DotEmu, Guard Crush Games and Lizardcube with blessings from series creator Sega, who served as a publisher this time.
