Resident Evil 8 Title Leaked, Chris Redfield Returns
Recent leaks on Resident Evil 8 reveal its possible title, settings and return of series protagonist Chris Redfield.
Earlier this week, long-anticipated remake of 1999 survival horror classic Resident Evil 3 just came out on April 3, 2020 for all major gaming platforms, following success of critically-acclaimed Resident Evil 2 Remake from last year.
Now that these two projects are finally done, developer/publisher Capcom is finally free to focus on mainline Resident Evil games and reportedly, their upcoming release is going to be Resident Evil 8, which now has its title leaked.
Through an anonymous tip received by Biohazard Declassified website, Capcom has a clever subtitle for next RE game. Currently named "Resident Evil 8: Village", this working title allows for highlighting "VIII" as Roman numeral of 8.
Previously, reputed leaker AestheticGamer has leaked "clever title" part alongside a small village setting for RE8. His claim of featuring a witch-like shadowy enemy with supernatural powers also matches recent leaked report.
Though there is not much detail of her origin but she will be able to control insects, much like old lady Marguerite Baker. When defeated, this witch will simply disappear and would often try to haunt player character with a maniacal laugh.
When series protagonist Chris Redfield showed up during end of Resident Evil 7 and it's Not a Hero DLC in a redesigned look, not everyone was too excited to see him and now, Capcom is giving him another makeover for his next outing.
Latest leak states that Chris is going to play a very important role in RE8 and will be presented in a negative light. Redfield will show up in a flashback scene with RE7 lead character Ethan and Mia Winters as well as their apparent baby.
What connection does their baby has to the game's overall narrative is yet to be revealed later. Chris will end up shooting one of them upon breaking into their house and his victim is most likely to be that child, which doesn't seem too heroic.
Ethan himself will be a bit more fleshed out since he is into this biohazard mess for second time after taking down Eveline almost on his own. Entirety of the game taking place in a European setting is similar to early rumors from last year.
Moreover, there are mentions of including hallucinations elements that will make it hard for your character to focus and concept of a hook man enemy, something that was a part of Resident Evil 3.5 but never made it to Resident Evil 4.
It is also claimed by source that developers have been busy testing with an UI similar to RE7 and one that is more like RE4. Nevertheless, upcoming RE8 is going to be in first-person perspective and not over-the-shoulder shooter in third-person.
Capcom is said to be planning to release Resident Evil 8 in Q1 of 2021 and an official reveal may take place very soon, maybe later this month. However, these schedules can change anytime due to recent global situation of Coronavirus outbreak.
AestheticGamer aka Dusk Golem revealed more notes over development of Resident Evil 8 on last week.
Okay, so the little game is done. This will be breaking this month with more details later not by myself, but I've needed to clear some stuff up. "Resident Evil 2021" is Resident Evil 8, but it wasn't always RE8. During most of its development it existed as Revelations 3.— AestheticGamer aka Dusk Golem (@AestheticGamer1) April 4, 2020
According to his recent leaks, RE8 started development as Resident Evil: Revelations 3 that was built upon framework of RE7 and Capcom made it into a mainline title impressed by its early version and seeing positive internal feedback.
Resident Evil 8 following a path laid down by its predecessor title may excite some fans because it was a big departure from previous RE games but those who are in love with Resident Evil 2 and 3 Remakes will be slightly disappointed.
