Mox is more like a militant group that was formed in year 2076, following death of a strip club owner and ex-prostitute named Elizabeth "Lizzie" Borden, who used to treat her employees fairly and defended them from sadistic customers.
The Mox are self-proclaimed protectors of every working girls and guys, carrying out her legacy. Although there are no mentions of how Borden passed away, it is most presumably because of same violence she tried to protect victims from.

CDPR is doing a lot more than portraying prostitutes as mere caricatures or fillers in their game. Instead, they are trying to depict them as members of society that needs protecting and adding backstories to give them sense of purpose.
CP2077 already features factions like Animals, Netwatch and Voodoo Boys from Cyberpunk 2020 original tabletop, created by Mike Pondsmith. Mox are a completely new addition to already existing ones within Cyberpunk universe.
