Fallout 76 Wastelanders Update to Bring Back Faction Reputations
Wastelanders update for Fallout 76 will reintroduce human NPCs and reputation system that rewards for faction loyalties.
Aside from many missing features, player complaints for online action role-playing game Fallout 76 were largely focused on linear quests types and developer/publisher Bethesda Softworks plans to address that issue in Wastelanders update.
Though there has not been a confirmed release window for when upcoming Wastelanders expansion would be releasing, Bethesda has recently revealed a bunch of important details about how its faction reputation system will work.

F76 had its fair share of enemies such as mutant creatures and robots in past but no human companions were around. Survivors who fled West Virginia during a Scorched outbreak earlier are now making their return to Appalachia.
One of the most prominent aspects of Fallout franchise like human NPCs are coming back in two major factions; Raiders and Settlers. You start from being a total stranger to them and will eventually become a close confidante over time.

Working through a reputation system, you can make some new friends and earn some rewards. Since both groups don't really know you at all, they can't just trust anyone right away and you have to earn your keep among them as a newcomer.
Try changing their views on you by completing quests, offering information and take down enemies to become a good neighbor. If you came to be as reliable by your actions, your reputation will surely grow with these parties.

Players can rank their way up to seven levels from Hostile or Cautious, to Neutral, Friendly, Ally and furthermore. You will receive in-game notification showing your reputation progress with factions each time when you will earn some.
Similarly, one can be on bad side of these factions if they chose to be overtly hostile towards everyone. It would be really interesting to see if groups can be at odds with someone so much that there is no going back building that relationship.

Reputation amounts will vary on size of different activities and usually a story quest will grant you a huge deal in ranks. Completing daily quests and making certain conversation choices earns you smaller sum of boost in reps.
Bethesda never cleared whether players can be at good stand with both groups since they both are two opposed team. Improvement of reps rank with Raiders and Settlers makes more items available for you to purchase from vendors.
