Half-Life: Alyx Finished Development
In a latest AMA session on Reddit, Half-Life: Alyx developers revealed the game is finished developing.
After a decade-long hiatus, Valve Corporation has returned to game developing but not essentially with Half-Life 3. Instead, they are offering players a brand-new VR experience though Half-Life 2 prequel game, Half-Life: Alyx.
During a recent AMA session on Reddit, dev team has revealed new information on HL: A, including the game is already pretty much complete and was worked on by largest development team in Valve history on board.

On previously set time, Alyx team joined fans for an AMA sharing many key-moments and promised that the game will absolutely not be delayed for launch in two months as they are done aside from some tweaking to its final scene.
Hearing that from developers themselves is a huge relief considering New Year of 2020 has seen a series of delay for many AAA-titles. Even Half-Life 2 was delayed for a year and players never saw release of Half-Life 2: Episode 3 till date.

They also added working with a development team of 80 members, which has been the largest one in history of Valve. Many of them and play-testers within studio have run through entire HL: A for more than once by now.
As they are expected, dev team is currently busy fixing bugs and polishing at this stage they are in to reach their planned release window. Keeping VR features in mind, Valve worked around with accessibility and possible movements.

Gameplay is focused on two-handed play at once but weapons are generally for one-handed use but players can grab them by offhand for steady aim while your other hand will be occupied with flashlight, gravity gloves and interactions.
In terms of game length, Alyx will roughly take as long as it would require to playthrough HL2. Players can of course put a bucket over headcrabs but they will be able to move it as they keep crawling and play-testers reported it as a bug.

Half-Life: Alyx has also changed voice actress Merle Dandridge for its protagonist and replaced her with Ozioma Akagha. Initially, Valve started working with Merle but then decided to approach a different route by the end.
In terms of voicing for a younger Alyx, Akagha makes more sense according to a past statement from designer Greg Coomer. Though it didn't made fans happy, many games have successfully changed voice actors in past for various reasons.

Mainline games of Half-Life series mostly had theoretical physicist Gordon Freeman in lead role, who is silent but deadly. However, upcoming VR-exclusive title will solely focus on his closest ally and recurring character Alyx Vance.
Fans were so excited following official announcement last year that there was a rise in selling of Valve Index VR headsets on a large number in Canada and North America, leading to stock shortages in many stores of those regions.

Though people are not getting their hands on HL3 just yet, at least a return to Half-Life universe is not that bad. Who knows, maybe events of HL: A can eventually bring back Gordon Freeman and make a third installment happen in future.
Lately, Valve has made entire Half-Life series of games free-to-play on Steam until release of Half-Life: Alyx in March 2020. So, you can take this time to go back to catch up to past events before entering the world of Alyx in virtual reality.
