Over the years, a number of Spider-Man video games were released but only a few has become very popular among fans or commercially successful as PlayStation 4-exclusive action-adventure game Marvel's Spider-Man from 2018.
Following a September release last year, Spider-Man on PS4 has managed to sell over 9 million copies by January 2019 and now has toppled Batman: Arkham City by becoming best-selling superhero video game of all time in United States.

Industry analyst Mat Piscatella of NPD Group has confirmed it by posting a lifetime video games sales chart on Twitter.

This news itself is great for Marvel's most iconic superhero since it has only been out for less than a year whereas Arkham City was released back in 2011 by Rocksteady Studios and Warner Bros. Interactive for past generation of consoles.
Now it may come as a surprise to many superhero fans considering 2018 Spider-Man game has a Metacritic score of 87, which is great but way inferior than a 96 score set by second Batman title from critically-acclaimed Arkham series.

In an attempt to come up with a definitive title featuring everyone's favorite wallcrawler, developer Insomniac Games and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment came up with the most beloved adaptation of Spidey in video games.
Their gameplay emphasis of combat and web-slinging was able to get fans hooked and received a number of awards at The Game Awards 2018. Set on a new and unique continuity, the game has established a standard for future Marvel Games projects.

Besides, Insomniac Games have been trying to keep fans happy with occasional release of variant Spidey suits for free and a series of paid DLC in "The City That Never Sleeps" as post launch to stay engaged and relevant.
In a recent addition, Marvel's Spider-Man has offered players Stealth and Upgraded suits from Spider-Man: Far From Home movie. Also, modern-day social media has helped spread word-of-mouth to reach a broader audience of all-ages.
