Borderlands 2 is Most-Played Steam Game Now
After unexpected review bombing earlier, Borderlands 2 suddenly becomes one of most played games on Steam.
When developer Gearbox Software launched popular looter shooter title Borderlands 2 back in 2012, it became very popular among players and sold over 13 million copies worldwide, making it one of the most successful game from publisher 2K Games.
Now that it's much awaited sequel Borderlands 3 has been announced lately, Vault Hunters are getting back at it once again. It has picked a notable peak among PC gamers on Steam recently as one of the most played titles on the platform.

Despite the game getting review bombed at the platform after an unpleasant discovery of it being an exclusive to Epic Games Store, players are taking their interest on the title again by giving it a massive boost on Steam charts.
At March 31, number of concurrent players started to rise above an average flow and by April 8, it quickly became one of the top 5 most played games on the platform when those numbers were pumped up to 59K and more.

Borderlands 2 were an all-time high with a simultaneous number of 123,596 players back in September 2012 and this recent climb is nearly half of that. Aside from in anticipation of upcoming sequel, there are other potential reasons for this rise.
The game is now on sale at 75% discount on store and recent arrival of The Handsome Collection with remastered graphics were offered for free who already owned it and these factors surely contributed to spike some interest.

Besides, many players were just getting prepped up to get back to the series that is back after seven years and perhaps they want to show Gearbox that they are more than happy to wait until 2020 until exclusivity of Epic Store expires.
Whatever the real reasons were behind this sudden growth, it still is amazing that fans showing love to beloved Borderlands action role-playing shooter franchise, so much so that they gave it an impressive 500% increase in average player count.

Fans of the series cheered in joy when Borderlands 3 was revealed at PAX East last month but a major fraction among them from PC platform were angry when it was revealed to be an Epic Games Store exclusive for first six months.
They didn't like it a bit and started review bombing Borderlands 2 on Steam and while Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford added more fuel to that rage machine; Steam actually took steps in retaining its former "Overwhelmingly Positive" score.
