Resident Evil 2 Remake to Include Deleted Concepts
Upcoming Resident Evil 2 Remake will feature unused concept arts and characters from Resident Evil 1.5.
Upcoming remake of survival horror game Resident Evil 2 from Capcom has created a lot of buzz after unloading a brand-new announcement trailer at E3 2018 press conference along with a bunch of still from the project.
From what we can tell, this is a whole new game built on the base of the original RE2 and many of the horror elements are redefined. While they are at it, the developers decided to use deleted concept arts and character designs from an early version of the game.

Before it became a horror classic, an early version of the game titled, Resident Evil 1.5 has been worked on to near completion but later got cancelled.
The initial plans had the players going back to the destroyed Spencer Mansion and engage in fight with plant-like enemies, a possible boss character blended with Albert Wesker until they came up with the plan of spreading the horror to the outskirts of Raccoon City. Developer team had completed almost 60 percent of this version before it was scrapped.

RE 1.5 at first starred rooky cop Leon Kennedy taking charge but instead of Chris Redfield's street savvy sister Claire Redfield, there was a character named Elza Walker, who was also a college student like Claire.
Leon and Elza would have started their journey from being trapped inside Raccoon City police station, whereas the place was for the protagonists to gather information about the outbreak in the original release. Just because the producers thought it was dull, it got reworked.

Despite having some close resemblance to the title, RE2 has some noticeable differences like several enemies including a Human Spider, some weapons like assault rifles and grenades, as well as a totally different design for the RPD building.
Elements from Resident Evil 1.5 eventually become resources for modders, who keep recreating the game over the years. By the looks of it, Resident Evil 2 remake will include some of the unused concept like a coat for Ada Wong and a red jacket for Claire Redfield.

However, Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition will reportedly feature a skin of Elza Walker for Claire and that make sense as they both shares a lot of similarities and traits. It will also allow players to switch between the soundtrack of RE2 Remake and the original game to bring back the retro experience.
It was a wise decision back then to redo the whole project as it became an old-school classic but it sure would be nice of them to drop some easter eggs from those days in the remake game.
