Rocksteady Rumored to Announce Superman Game?
Rumor has it that developer Rocksteady Studios is going to announce an Open World Superman game very soon.
Developer Rocksteady Studios were the ones behind the critically-acclaimed Batman: Arkham series, which probably is the best iteration of Batman on video game media. The franchise started with Batman: Arkham Asylum in 2009 as we saw a perfectly balanced Dark Knight with equal part stealth and some serious butt-kicking action. Recently, a new poster on an image-based online bulletin board 4chan seems to be hinting at an upcoming open world Superman game from the same developer.
Rocksteady went full open world with Arkham City and Arkham Knight after their first attempt of making a decent The Dark Knight game was successful. Just like we experienced all those fan-favorite insane villains from the pages of comic-book coming live in Arkham series, we believe they will do the same justice with everyone's favorite big blue here. It's been a few years that fans are being teased for a Superman game from the same studio but got nothing so far.
We couldn't even get any confirmation on whether or not they have started with any development work at all or is the project got scrapped, which actually happens more time than you think. The idea was also presented that perhaps it has been secretly developed by them to release as a tie-in to some future live-action Superman film but what we didn't have is some solid information. With the emergence of the new poster online, we now have more reasons to be doubtful.
From what we were able to gather from the post was that the developers will officially reveal the game itself a few weeks before E3, which marks the date for June, 2018.
Other than the poster, we have some brief details on the game that seems promising even though sources are not officially confirmed yet.
The problem with anonymous sources is that they have no validity no matter how much information they have and that's why they are not reliable at all. The poster from the thread sure looks like a concept art of some sort but it turns out to be an excellent fan-art by artist Charles Logan from his ArtStation account, which he actually posted three years back. According to artist himself, it sure was a concept art for a client’s Superman video game pitch but it was scrapped later.
This is not the first time a "leak" was claimed by a 4chan post about a game on Man of Steel but one of many. In November 2017, there was another rumor from the same website which claimed a cover story regarding the game will be featured on Game Informer, which was declined by executive editor Andrew Reiner himself. Apparently there was another rumor from three years ago, when this rumor first came out and Logan's art was also from around the same time. So, is there a chance that it was truly for a Superman game? If it is, can it be brought back?

Rumored Rocksteady Superman Game Poster |
Other than the poster, we have some brief details on the game that seems promising even though sources are not officially confirmed yet.
- Made by Rocksteady
- Unreal Engine 4
- Big open world Metropolis (about 3 times the size of Arkham Knight with a lot more buildings)
- Can't play as Clark Kent
- Main villain is Brainiac
- Nerfed Superman (TAS Levels)
- Semi-destructible environments (think AK, no buildings are falling over)
- Combat system integrates the flying (kind of like DBZ, you can punch someone then zoom towards them and repeat)
- Set within the Arkhamverse
- Tons of easter eggs to Superman's lore, and some to the events that took place in the Batman Arkham Franchise
