It's not every day of their life, nerds and geeks like actor Janina Gavankar (
Grey's Anatomy,
True Blood) herself gets a chance to play a role as iconic and independent as Inferno Squad's leader Commander Iden Versio. Being a part of something as big as the
Star Wars franchise is a reward itself and it is tenfold multiplied when you are chosen to portray a character that will offer the unique perspective of Galactic Empire.

Star Wars Battlefront II with Janina Gavankar |
Motive Studios’
Star Wars Battlefront II writer Mitch Dyer believes Janina was the ultimate choice for becoming Iden Versio. Not only she feels lucky to have this part, but the guys at
EA are also feeling blessed to have her among them. From her initial audition for the part, she assumed that it had to be
Battlefront and that's why she got more serious about the role from then. Since everyone was so secretive about the project, she had no way of knowing for sure.

Janina Gavankar on Stage at EA Play 2017 |
Then, after waiting more than a week, Janina decides to take the initiative of letting them know how eagerly passionate she is about this project and wrote a mail to Mitch. In a world full of male lead characters, she wanted to push the boundaries with her portrayal of strong, complex, female lead. What she didn't know back then is that she was already been selected by the studio before she even wrote to them.
She announced the confirmation afterwards on April 16, on her
Twitter account.
She was pretty skeptical and anxious about going to the EA Play press conferences as for years, she had been quite critical at them. However, at EA Play 2017, Janina Gavankar was enthusiastically talking about
Battlefront II, her character and her presence on stage just stole the show for everyone.

On Top of EA |
Almost immediately after she was cast as Iden Versio, Janina heads to the headquarters of
Electronic Arts’ in Redwood Shores, California. She had an amazing time with the creative team and was very appreciable to the fact that
EA was pretty generous when it comes to express her opinions on the role. Mitch Dyer also collaborated with
Lucasfilm’s lead writer Walt Williams to re-write the characteristic aspects of Commander Iden Versio based on Miss Gavankar.
