Does The Emperor Return In Battlefront II?

By the time, the galaxy is ready for the events of Star Wars Battlefront II, The Emperor is already dead and the second Death Star is also destroyed in Return of the Jedi, right? Or we all hoped so. EA and DICE has already released the stunning Official Gameplay Trailer on June 10th at E3, featuring some epic gameplay footage from the game, the Inferno Squad and there was something we noticed at the end of the clip. Was that not a brief glimpse of a certain Emperor?

How Does The Emperor Return In Battlefront II

As Battlefront II will work on the bridge the gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, there will be some tie-in to a couple of loose ends. So, the question is, how did Emperor Sheev Palpatine return in the game from his certain death? The answer is; he simply didn't.

Like a true evil mastermind, Sheev Palpatine became the first Emperor of the Galactic Empire with precise planning and a lot of manipulation. He was among the Jedi all along during his time in Naboo and no one ever could tell that he was a Sith Lord after all. Upon becoming the supreme ruler of the galaxy, he made the Contingency, a well-devised plan to ensure the reign of Galactic Empire even when he won't be around to see it. He installed his plans for selected Imperial officers and personnel and left them behind in his special sentinel droids to deliver posthumous orders on his behalf, with each of them carrying a different message.

The Emperor's Contingency

This theory of sentinel droids is already been established in the comics Shattered Empire by writer Greg Rucka (Superman – World of New Krypton, Wonder Woman – The Hiketeia) and artist Marco Checchetto (Daredevil, Punisher). This indicates that the Star Wars franchise is actually taking inspiration from the Extended Universe that was considered abandoned, where Palpatine took precaution for his plans to succeed and cloned himself.

The reason for leaving the sentinel droids behind was to make sure that no one else could rule the galaxy and Palpatine almost succeeded until the rise of The First Order. So, by the looks of things, it seems that Battlefront II may reveal some phase of Emperor’s contingency plan. However, it is still not clear that whether or not those plans are already explored in comics or are they some new, yet to be discovered part.

Star Wars Battlefront II will be released on November 17 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be out on December 15. In between the time, maybe we will learn more of Emperor’s legacy from the game.

It actually is more like connecting the larger universe than being bold. Good thing that they started this positive wave of change after all.
